Description
NOVICA, in association with National Geographic, works together with talented artisan designers around the world to produce stunning, keepsake treasures. Our mantra is to spread global happiness, so rest assured - we’ll do everything we possibly can to ensure you’re a happy customer. About this item: Named Baki Ja – "Round Mask" in the language of Mali – this piece represents Ara, a water god. Wave motifs executed in white clay flow across the symmetrical features. Sefah Mohammed presents an African mask said to ward off evil spirits. About our Artist: 'My work is very unique because I craft African masks of extremely high quality. Moreover, I have innovated some creativity into my art with local available resources, such as calabash and cowries,' says Ghana's Sefah Mohammed. 'There are a lot of factors that motivate me but the significant one is to depict the uniqueness of African history for our younger generations. I have trained a lot of carvers who are still carving and making ends meet for their families.'
